In December 2006, I was part of the ChurchAds.Net team which developed and ran the Christmas campaign, Where will you find him?
The campaign included a series of radio ads in which young people talked about their spiritual beliefs, and a striking poster depicting the face of Jesus in a beer glass… which was very current, with images of the Virgin Mary in toasted sandwiches selling on eBay at the time.
The radio and poster ads, which were aimed at young people, pointed to an Is this Jesus? page on the social media website myspace.com, where visitors could post about their views and experiences of God (see the quotes opposite).
Despite a mixed reaction from the media (The Sun ran with the headline, What the beer-Jesus is that?), the myspace page saw 62,000 pages of traffic, with a high number of friend signups and posts.
